Seniors Programs

Group Exercise Classes: Some of these classes are designed for those 50 and over. Others are designed for all age groups and fitness abilities, including those 50 and over. These group exercise classes will consist of low impact aerobics, stretching, range of motion exercises, balancing and flexibility training and health and fitness discussions.

Each class is instructed by a Certified Group Fitness trainer who will teach proper form and correct posture in order to prevent injury. Also, you will learn how to properly weight train, build muscle, improve cardio endurance and strengthen bones in order to help prevent osteoporosis.

Some people may qualify for a free membership to Spring Valley through the Silver Sneakers program offered exclusively by Highmark Freedom Blue Shield, Highmark Securityi 65, Highmark MedigapBlue, Geisenger Gold and Hop,and others.

 

Silver Sneaker Classes: The class format includes a warm-up and rhythmic range of movement stretch, work with resistance tools, cool down, final stretch and relaxation segment. It is an equipment -based, multi-level, total body conditioning class in which students use hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, a Silver Sneakers playball and a chair for standing and/or seated support. For all levels of fitness.

Active Adult: This low impact class is designed for cardio conditioning choreographed to music using the ramp, step or moves on the floor. This class also incorporates some resistance training. For all levels of fitness.


Pilates: Consists of a series of controlled movements on the mat aimed at strengthening deeper postural muscles in your core. Lisa recommeds her1/2 hr. Pilates Class.  See the group fitness schedule for current day and time.  For all levels of fitness.

  

Silver Sneaker Yoga Stretch:            This low impact yoga class focuses on improving balance, restorative breathing techniques, flexibility and movement through a variety of seated and standing yoga poses.

Hatha Yoga: This physical yoga class will have you moving slowly between basic poses, breathing through your nose in rhythm, all combined with stretching poses to keep you flexible. For beginners and intermediate levels of fitness.

Yoga Stretch: This low impact class will consist of breathing, stretching and balance poses while sitting and/or standing next to the chair. All ages are welcomed. For all levels of fitness.

Line Dancing: Kick up your heels and have some fun learning various types of dance. For all levels of fitness.

Charlie's Circuit: In this class Charlie will take you through a series of stations designed to improve your balance, strength, cardiovascular endurance and your flexibility. For beginner to advanced levels.

Specialized Osteoporosis Training

Spring Valley offers equipment and services for anyone looking to improve their health including special populations. Recently Dr. Emkey, one of the nation’s foremost experts on osteoporosis, hosts a clinic providing information on the progression of osteoporosis, supplementation and exercise recommendations. Resistance training has tremendous benefits for people with osteoporosis which include increased bone density and reduced risk of falling (a main source of fractures). Spring Valley has a unique hip development machine which research has shown to be very effective at increasing bone density. Our personal trainers provide resistance training programs designed around four things: Age, Gender, Body Type and Goals. You can be sure your workouts will be both effective and safe. Diabetics and back pain suffers are also highly encouraged to meet with a trainer. Both conditions have very unique problems associated with them and need specific exercise selections and form. You can feel confidant when training with our personal trainers that you are receiving help from a true fitness professional. A person who has both the knowledge and the know how to help you reach your fitness goals whatever what your starting point is.
